Lingual Braces

LINGUAL BRACES

Lingual braces are the least visible type of dental braces. Lingual braces are placed onto the inside surface of the teeth, as opposed to traditional braces which are placed on the outside of the teeth. With the braces positioned on the inner surface, it makes them very difficult to see.

Functionally, lingual braces will realign your teeth just as effectively and in relatively the same time frame as traditional braces. If you are self conscious of your appearance and would not feel confident wearing traditional braces, lingual braces are an excellent choice. Although there are important things to consider, for some patients the cosmetic advantage of having nearly invisible braces is well worth the added cost and challenges!

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Not everyone is a candidate for lingual braces. For example, they are not suitable for adults and teenagers who have small teeth or excessive bite problems. Because lingual braces are placed on the inside surface of your teeth, regular adjustment appointments will take longer because of more difficult accessibility. You might have some temporary difficulty at first enunciating clearly because the braces can interfere with the movement of your tongue. Lingual braces can be uncomfortable for some people, and your tongue is more susceptible to getting cut. There can be more issues with food getting trapped. Plaque buildup can be more of a problem because it's difficult to see whether all food has been removed after brushing.

YOUR INVESTMENT

As with anything that involves using specialized technology, the associated costs are higher.  Dr. Kasso custom makes the brackets specifically for you. He will need to custom position the brackets onto the teeth, and placement is more difficult and time consuming. Treatment tends to be more involved and time consuming as well because of the customization process and the additional issues of fine-tuning them on the back of your teeth.
